The focus of this Blog is my opinion and observations about the Cleveland Browns and University of Florida Gators performance, the NFL, SEC and sports in general. Sports history and current sports operations including political and social impact on society. Reader's of my book "They Call It A Game" tell me, without exception that it changed their thinking about the NFL and is as relevent today as ever. Saying they enjoyed reading it is a great bonus.

Embarrassed 41-0

The Steelers once embarassed a winning Browns team when arch nemisis John Henry Johnson ran for 238 yards and several touchdowns against us. That was also a home game so I know how it feels. The Giants did it to us 48-7 in New York and the Packers did it to us 49-17 in Cleveland. We had winning seasons each of those years. We lived through those embarassments. All of us Jim Brown and all. Some days things seem to just go wrong. I played my normal game I didn't get embarassed personally and in fact Coach Paul Brown pointed out after the Giants massacred us 48-7 that Defensive Tackle Floyd Peters and I had played well. Paul said we played so bad it wasn't going to help any to look at the game films so we didn't. We got over it. In fact we won the next game after each massacre. And with many of the same players we won it all just a few years later.

My advice to the Browns players and the Browns fans get over it. It happens in the NFL. It will happen again. With eight quarterback sacks how many other times was Charlie Frye pressured? Eight quarterbacks sacks and a blocked punt will do it every time. That's going to happen. Fortunately I didn't see the game but from the statistics I notice Frye didn't throw any interceptions. I like that.

The Browns have played well against some of the better teams in the league including the Colts and I'll be dissappointed if they don't take out some frustration on the Ravens on January 1st.

Parrish Thoughts

Browns: Freshmen QB Charlie Frye should call his own plays. Play calling and last second strategies have not been a Browns braintrust strength so far this season. A fresh young mind that appears to have some valuable football savy couldn't hurt a thing. After the 28 yard run by the Jaguars QB to end the Browns chance to win that game there needs to be some help calling defenses as well.

The NFL should assert itself and suspend all of the T.O.'s, Randy Moss's, Chad Johnson's whose ignorant arrogant self promoting antics are lowering the image of the game of football to that of Gangster Rap or a Jerry Springer Show. Quoting again from Wikipedia: "Given that the audience for gangsta rap has become predominately white, some commentators (for example, Spike Lee in his satirical film Bamboozled) have even criticized it as analogous to minstrel shows and blackface performance, in which performers, both black and white, were made up to look like black caricatures, acted in a stereotypically uncultured and ignorant manner for the entertainment of white audiences. Some performers, such as The Geto Boys, are even accused of being cartoonish and over-the-top (though many artists, particularly the Geto Boys, would be the first to freely admit this)."

Browns Curse: Brylon Edwards injury is just the latest evidence of the curse. With Art Modell in the Browns history the number of curses hurled at the Browns by way of Art would probably make the Browns the most cursed franchise in all of sports. Perhaps we should hold an "Art Appreciation Day" to meet in one place and try to lift the curse. This would be a good time it has been 10 years now since Art abandon Cleveland for the best deal he could find in the Al Davis depositions on moving the Raiders franchise. Maybe it would even get him into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Politics: I believe author Bob Woodward's source for outing Valery Plame's CIA identity, that he is saving to sell his new book with is Secretary of State Condalezza Rice . You heard it here first .

NFL promos Gangster Rap policy: The FBI campaign against the internaional gang MS13 was a 60 Minute feature last week end. The FBI folks are extremely upset by the NFL's & ESPN's use of a Gangster Rap promo that amounts to an overt recruiting campaign for MS13 and other gangs across America.
